Minoxidil Results

How does Minoxidil work?

Minoxidil is a clinically proven treatment1 that works to help reverse1 miniaturisation and stimulate new hair growth in those suffering from androgenetic alopecia – also known as hereditary hair loss.2

Initially used as an oral treatment, researchers eventually discovered that Minoxidil would be a more effective hair loss treatment if applied topically, in the form of a foam or a liquid solution. By delivering Minoxidil directly to the scalp at least once a day for the foam, every day, those suffering from hereditary hair loss can start to notice hair regrowth and increased volume just three months into the treatment.

Minoxidil helps fight the battle against hereditary hair loss in a number of different ways. While scientists don’t yet know the exact mechanism of how Minoxidil works, it has been shown to be safe and effective when used properly.  Minoxidil is a vasodilator which means it can work to widen blood vessels inside the body. When this is applied to the scalp, the boosted blood flow is able to deliver more nutrients to the scalp to feed the follicles. The use of Minoxidil also appears to stimulate dormant follicles, moving them from their resting phase (telogen) into their growing phase (anagen). When the follicles reach this stage, Minoxidil is believed to keep them in the anagen stage longer, meaning the hairs will remain on the scalp for a greater period of time, giving better scalp coverage. What’s more, Minoxidil seems to widen the hair follicle.  As part of the miniaturisation process, follicles gradually produce thinner hair each time they go through the hair cycle, so Minoxidil is believed to reverse that trend by seemingly creating thicker hairs.

The use of Minoxidil in this way is thought to help encourage new, thicker hairs to grow, for increased hair volume without having to resort to extensions, backcombing, wigs or other alternatives.

Proven1 results

A large body of evidence spanning more than 20 years supports the use of Minoxidil for the treatment of hair loss.

Women’s REGAINE® contains Minoxidil and is clinically proven1 to help regrow hair2 — but don’t take our word for it. The numbers speak for themselves. Simply put, Women’s REGAINE® Foam and Solution help promote hair regrowth.

The Women’s REGAINE® Foam reactivates hair follicles to help stimulate regrowth. In a clinical study, eight out of 10 women who used REGAINE® Foam reactivated hair follicles and regrew hair up to 48% thicker.

It's key to recall, though, that with Women’s REGAINE® products, you have to keep using the product in order to help keep your hair regrowing. As with many things, patience is key. The longer you persevere with Women’s REGAINE®, the better the results will be.
